Okay, so my friend has decided to write about a friend of hers every week and this week she PICKED ME!!! How sweet is she? So, I am going to do the same thing to her.... So, sit back relax and read about the most wonderful friend in the world .....KDK...
"There is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one's self, the very meaning of one's soul. " ~Edith Wharton
Okay, so like she said she has a steel trap for a memory so unfortunately I don't have nearly the memories from the first of the friendship like she does.... But, I'll try!! We were two (actually three, but that's a different story) friends who could not be separated. We did everything together. 2 NKOTB concerts, 1 in Tulsa and 1 in OKC. The one in Tulsa was the best because we were like in the 15th row and it was GREAT!! We saw Donnie beforehand and of course, I scared him off with my screaming. But, this was after we ran across the street where her cousin just got hit by a car! Imagine if you will, Skelly St in Tulsa, very busy, lots of cars. Kim and I were wanting to go across because Donnie was on the other side. TOO MANY CARS!! Her cousin was a little down from us and she decided to just go for it. She got hit by a car and Kim and I said, SCORE, let's go!!! So, off we went not even stopping to see if the cousin was ok. That was bad. She's right, we were so competitive with each other. Who had the most pictures of NKOTB, basically everything. We were both very outspoken, bold, and wouldn't take s*&! from anyone. (Side note, can you cuss on this blog?) I also could not imagine high school without her in it. Family vacations to Angel Fire, NM and Surfside, TX included her. Can't have vacation time without my bestie!!! She was, and is, the best friend a girl could ask for....
Then came college and I tested that friendship, unknowingly. I joined a sorority (which is funny because a lot of people that read your blog daily, was in that very same sorority with me. Hi Holly, Sasha, Katy and Shannon!) I will admit now something that I never have to you, KDK.. I was not very nice during that time. I thought I was so cool and I neglected the one person who had always been there for me. And for that, I am so sorry. Can you forgive me??? Then, after a couple of years, we reconnected. I moved to Dallas immediately after graduation and moved into a kick ass apartment which was right across the street from my beloved Dallas Cowboys (now, this was in 1998, 1999, and 2000... when they were really good) practice field. She was the first person to come stay the weekend with me and I will never forget that. I moved back to Ada in 2000 and she then proceeded to move to Dallas!!! Oh, the irony.
She moved to Portland and I am proud to say that I was the first to go visit her. We had so much fun, going to see the Goonie house, staying at a bed and breakfast that had a really small door as a bonus in our room (Dorff does Oregon!) and beautiful waterfalls, and cliff overlooks that led to me flashing the highway beneath us.... Oh, the fun we had. I was there the week before she met her Mr. Right. A part of me was a little sad, because it wasn't just the two of us against the world anymore. She had to go off and bring a boy into the picture.... aaaggghhh!!! I thought I would get pushed to the side, but quite the opposite. One of the things that is so incredible about her is that she stayed exactly the same when it came to me. I had seen others in the past go through love, and push friends to the side. Not with her. That's when I really realized that we were going to be friends until the end of time. Made me very happy. She came to Ada to get married, I was her maid of honor, and I was so glad to be standing up there next to her. Even though my sniffling through the ceremony caught her attention, she was not mad!! haha....
She is by far, the funniest person that I have ever met. She can imitate people like no one else can. "I got a crap on deck that would choke a donkey" (Old Dirty Bastard from Austin Powers). I have always wished that I could be as hysterical as she is. She is confident, strong, beautiful, funny, loyal, caring, compassionate, and so many others. All of that makes her to be a wonderful wife and a totally awesome mom. Husband and kiddo are so lucky to have you. We are all so very blessed to know you and those of us that are lucky enough to call you friend, well that's even better...
She is so far away from me, but when we talk about how crappy my life is, she always knows exactly what to say to me to make me feel better. She is honest and she is real and she is my best friend. She is so smart and knows so much about everything.
She is also a true friend. One who knows more about me than anyone and likes me anyway!
"When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares." ~Henri Nouwen
